Our latest air conditioning client is a leading, global manufacturer of broadcast equipment and solutions, and was in need of an expert air conditioning system at its premises in Aberdeen, where the conservatory had been transformed into the organisation’s communications room.
Complete with vital IT equipment and the business’ servers which must stay online at all times, these rooms should be kept at an optimal temperature of 19 – 21°C, while temperatures exceeding 35°C need to be addressed immediately to keep these technologies from overheating. If the servers were to go above a certain temperature, then this would cause them to automatically shut down meaning the business would face downtime across its operations.
The room suffered from high temperatures due to its former use as a conservatory, and with Aberdeen’s weather continuing to rise year-on-year, the risk of the client suffering from downtime was increasing. Knowing Kore’s expert air conditioning solutions could solve this problem, the customer contacted Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Manager, Wayne Fettes, for help.
Before determining the perfect solution, Kore’s team conducted a site visit to complete a thorough inspection of the communication room, and identify any challenges that could shape the products suitable for this space.
Wayne immediately noticed an obstacle which would determine what was possible for the client. Because this was a conservatory-style room filled with servers and IT equipment, there was limited wall space while the pitched roof presented a unique challenge in itself. Furthermore, one of the walls couldn’t be used as the external unit would be too close to the neighbour - regulations state that there must be at least a 10 metre gap between the condenser (external unit), and a neighbouring building.
After planning was complete, Kore’s team determined that a 10 kW Daikin wall-mounted system was the ideal solution to keep the communications room operating at optimal temperatures all year round.
As an established D1 partner of Daikin, Kore’s customers benefit from a 7 year warranty on all parts and equipment manufactured by Daikin which is renowned for incredible quality and reliability - this was an added benefit to the client.
The introduction of a new, pristine air conditioning system allows the client's team to rest easier, as they are confident that the risk of server and IT breakdowns due to high temperatures has been greatly reduced.
The installation, which was completed within 4 working days, progressed with minimal downtime for the client’s team, as Kore was able to temporarily relocate the essential equipment while work was completed. Furthermore, Kore maintained clear communications with the customer throughout the project to ensure they were up-to-date with progress, while making the client aware of any necessary downtime in advance of when the unit would need to be connected to the main power supply.
Pleased with the quality of the product and the efficiency of Kore’s team, the customer has since requested that Kore completes routine maintenance and check-ups of the air conditioning system every 6 months.
